Crime
Reporting Procedures:
There are three primary ways to report
crime here in Albuquerque, depending on the type of crime and the specific
situation. The table below should help:
Emergency:
Phone: 911
|
Non-Emergency:
Phone: 242-COPS (2677)
|
Telephone Reporting Unit:
Phone: 768-2030 (6:30am to 11pm,
Monday thru Sunday)
|
| An emergency
call is defined as a situation where a person’s life or property is in
danger or threatened. |
A non-emergency
call is a situation where a person’s life and/or property are not in immediate
danger. |
This is
a way to file reports about certain types of crimes that don’t fit the
other two categories, without tying up APD officers. |
| Examples
include fire calls, accidents with injuries, groups of persons with weapons
preparing to fight, shootings, stabbings, robberies, rape, etc. |
Examples
include smashed windows in an unoccupied home, abandon car on street, persons
loitering near a school, and information about impending crimes. |
Examples
include vandalism, graffiti (see note below), theft from your yard,
auto theft, criminal trespass, harassing phone call, missing persons, stalking,
delayed house burglary, etc. |

Note: After you report graffiti,
call Solid Waste Management at 768-4725, and they will send someone out
to cleanup or paint over the graffiti.
Crime Stoppers:
If you have information about a crime
and don’t want to "get involved", make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers
at 843-STOP (7867). You can remain anonymous and receive rewards
up to $1,000.00.
Things We
Can Do To Prevent Crime:
Here in the PRORA area there are many
things we can do to fight crime. Listed below are just a few suggestions:
-
Report all crimes include
graffiti and all forms of vandalism.
-
Get everyone on your block to leave your
outside lights on at night.
-
Be a Block Captain and start a Block
Watch on your block.
-
Keep your car, house, and garage doors
closed and locked at all times.
-
Park your cars in the garage, not on the
street.
-
Report all suspicious activity in your
neighborhood to the police.
-
Keep shrubs and trees around your house
cut back, so criminals can’t hide.
-
When you leave town, have neighbors collect
your mail and newspapers.
-
When out of town, use light timers to
turn lights in your house on and off.
-
Keep your drapes drawn when you’re away.
